Women In Radio’s (WIR) 8th Annual Conference Celebrating Women in the Industry

ATLANTA, Ga. (February 26, 2024) – Join Women In Radio (WIR) for its 8th Annual Conference on Saturday, March 9th at Atlanta Tech Village from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. ET. This year's conference promises to be an empowering and enlightening event, featuring renowned speakers, engaging sessions, a delectable brunch bar curated by Maple Street Biscuit Co., and drinks by Tost.

This year's conference celebrates women's achievements in the radio industry. As part of this celebration, Women In Radio will be presenting iHeartMedia’s VP of Programming, Thea Mitchem, with the prestigious Trailblazer Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field.

According to research conducted by RTDNA/Newhouse School at Syracuse University, men continue to dominate the field with 60.5% compared to 39.5% women. The data also indicates a decline in the number of women news directors and general managers compared to the previous year.

Meaghan Taylor, Founder of Women In Radio, emphasized the importance of events like the Annual Conference in addressing these disparities. "Women working in the radio industry in various aspects of radio has decreased over the last year. However, this event continues to show that women are still fighting to be recognized in this space and will hopefully provide in-depth radio expertise from women working across all platforms," said Taylor.

Taylor, an alumna of Florida A&M University, founded Women In Radio in 2016 to support the advancement of women in the radio industry. With a background in radio that spans across markets such as Y100 in Miami, FL, Taylor currently serves as the Digital Content Producer with The Steve Harvey Morning Show.

This year’s conference will feature a panel discussion hosted by media personality Chelsea LeMore. Panelists include Keisha Nicole (Good Morning H-Town), Bethany Kent (Director of Music Initiatives, Audacy), Joy Young (Regional Promotions Director), Beyonce Alowishus (Producer and On-Air Talent of the Rickey Smiley Show), Nicky Sparrow (SVP of Multicultural Sales, iHeartMedia), Shayla Forte (SouthEast Senior Director, SXM Media), and Lore’l (On-air talent, The Morning Hustle).

Additionally, there will be a Fireside Chat hosted by Power 105.1’s Ivy Rivera and featuring Thea Mitchem, Executive VP of Programming at iHeartMedia, who will be receiving Women In Radio’s Trailblazer Award.

All attendees will receive a stylish 40 oz Stanley Quencher Tumbler in Cream to take home, and they'll have the chance to win a $500 scholarship or grant. To purchase tickets for this event, please visit here.
